Make 2016 Your Best Year Yet!

As Christmas draws near take some time for reflection about yourself, your life and the direction it is taking. Are you living a life that is true to you or one that you feel is being dictated to you by obligation and the expectations of others?

If so then it is time to think how am I going to go about addressing that in 2016? You must say it is time for me to take control of my life and to put it on a definite path with steps in place to achieve that which you want in your life.

2016 is a time for change. To cast off that which you feel has been pulling you back. It is time to step out into the unknown and take those chances that you have dreamed of. It will be scary. It will be terrifying but it will be so incredibly worth it.

Change is not easy. But it is the only constant in life. Once you embrace that you will achieve all that you strive for.

Life is not just this one journey from birth to death. That is only in the physical sense. We can have many lives within one lifetime. It is never too late to be reborn and start again.

Some say we only get one life but if we do it right, once is enough. So don’t spend anymore time thinking, wondering, wishing. Start acting, doing and living.

Peace and plants.
Peter.

2016! Fail to Prepare or Prepare to Fail.

It will soon be that time of year again when people start to think about making New Year’s resolutions. It may be to lose weight, exercise more, walk the dog more, etc.

Or perhaps you don’t make resolutions because they never seem to work out anyway. Why is that?

Have you ever stopped to think why so many people don’t stick to their New Year’s resolutions?

According to certain studies between 88%(1) and 92%(2) of people fail to stick to their New Year’s resolutions.

Over the next few blogs I will look at why this is and ways of how you can make your resolutions more achievable.

There may be a number of reasons why someone doesn’t stick to their resolution; it seemed too hard, they got overwhelmed so they quit, they didn’t see the results quick enough, or it didn’t mean enough to them to see it through and so they gave up.

Many people see a New Year’s resolution as a chance to change something they don’t like in their life. But very often they take an all or nothing approach. This can often be too overwhelming; change is difficult and must be achieved incrementally overtime so break it down into smaller pieces and spread it out over the course of the year.

You didn’t get to where you are today as a result of what happened in the last 30 days. It is as a result of your actions over many years.

We live in a society where we are constantly bombarded with quick fixes and fast results but these only lead to short term results. To really instill change in our lives we have to completely reset the system.

I will explore this further in my next blog. If you have any questions about making changes in your life particularly in relation to diet, exercise and lifestyle choices I am a certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Coach and am here to help.

Accept it. Remain Positive and Carry On!

‘Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.’ Winston Churchill

I try to be a positive person. And that’s not to say things don’t work out the way I would have liked. But that I don’t dwell on it or get down hearted. I move on. I keep going. And make sure things turn out differently the next time.

I’ve got no time for moaning and complaining, small mindedness or pettiness. If you’ve got time for that then you are not doing enough with your life. Get more important things to concern yourself with and you won’t have time for distractions.

Follow a dream. Find a goal to work on. And work on it everyday. If you are doing that, you won’t have time for small mindedness, pettiness, moaning or complaining because you’ll be saying I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS!! I’ve got bigger things going on in my life that I need to spend time doing.

So many people say ‘I don’t have time to do it’ but yet they have time to watch mind numbing TV, or rubbish news casts that is just filling your mind with negativity and distraction. It is just wasted time.

How could that time be better spent? Working on yourself. To make yourself better. In any area of your life. To be better at your job. To be a better wife, husband, partner, sibling or parent. What books could you read that would expand your thinking. What activity could you be doing that is improving your health goals?

You may not HAVE the time but if it is important enough to you then you must FIND the time.

You’ve got 2 options. Either do whatever is necessary to find the time. Or spend that time regretting having wasted the time.

Either way the time will pass. And you can either look back on it with pride in your accomplishments or sit and wonder what might have been.

So what’s it going to be?

Change is Hard. But Staying the Same is Harder.

We all have our good and our bad days. But one bad day does not mean you give up on your goals. It does not mean you throw away all the work that you have done up to now. It means you get up. Dust yourself off. You recognise it. And say I won’t let that happen again and you keep moving forward. Be bigger than your excuses. Too many people give up at the first sign of discomfort or the first sign of difficulty. But that’s how it’s going to be. There will be difficult times.

Change is hard. But do you know what’s harder?

SPENDING THE REST OF YOUR LIFE BEING EXACTLY THE SAME!!!!

These bad days are the universes way of testing you to see if it truly means enough to you to keep going. You’ve got to want it bad enough that no matter how many times you might get knocked down you’re willing to get back up and KEEP MOVING FORWARD.

You’ve got to remember why you set these goals to begin with.

It’s about dreaming big and LIVING beyond mediocrity. It’s about PLANNING and COMMITMENT. It’s about PUSHING yourself out of your comfort zone to be all of who you can be. It’s about creating life the way you want it, not what society dictates. It’s about feeling the satisfaction of ACHIEVING something you’ve possibly only dreamed about, and knowing that the only thing stopping you reaching your goals is YOU.

Now go and be a badass (but be kind to everyone) 🙂
